Medical Services

Through a collaboration with Dell Children’s Medical Center and their CARE (Child Abuse Resource and Education) Program, services are provided for child abuse and maltreatment concerns including sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect. All examinations are conducted at the Center’s medical clinic by medical professionals led by a pediatrician board-certified in child abuse.

Physical Abuse/Sexual Abuse Evaluations

A medical professional specializing in assessing physical trauma and child sexual abuse conducts on-site examinations of children who have experienced abuse. Acute sexual assault exams can be done at Dell Children’s Hospital if the assault happened within the last 120 hours. If you think your child needs an exam, please go to Dell Children’s Hospital located at 4900 Mueller Blvd, Austin, TX 78723. Non-acute sexual assault exams will take place if the assault happened anytime after 120 hours. If needed, these exams will be scheduled at the time of your child’s forensic interview. If you think your child needs a non-acute exam and you do not have an open investigation, please make a report by calling 1-800-252-5400 or by calling 9-1-1.

Katherine Snyder

Our Medical Team

The Center for Child Protection’s on-site medical clinic is staffed by physicians and staff from Dell Children’s Medical Center. Led by Center Medical Director, Katherine Snyder, MD, MPH, FAAP, the Dell team includes pediatric nurse practitioners, licensed master social workers, and clinical administration professionals.

Dr. Snyder is board-certified in child abuse pediatrics, equipping her with the skills to properly evaluate children who may be victims of abuse or neglect. Child abuse pediatricians are the physicians most capable of determining if and how a child was injured. When appropriate, they can actively search for medical problems or other explanations for a child’s symptoms.
