Dear Friend,
We extend our deep gratitude to the many individuals,
families and organizations who have made pledges to
help us build the new Kozmetsky Center for Child
Protection. As of February 28, we have raised 95.51%
of the $9,100,000 goal. With construction underway,
we need your help to raise the final $408,143 by April
12 to receive a $400,000 Mabee Foundation
Challenge Grant. Please consider a pledge to the Capital Campaign to help us
meet the needs of vulnerable children, like Jennifer.

Unwanted: A Child's Story
|
|
Eight-year-old Jennifer came to the Center for Child
Protection in a great deal of trauma. She was angry,
sad, and extremely confused. We learned that her
mother had sent her away as a young girl. And while
living with her father and his girlfriend, she was beaten
for minor offenses with hangers, extension cords, and
fists. As a way to cope with her feelings of
abandonment and sadness, she began to hurt
herself. She told our interviewer that her life was so
filled with unhappiness, abuse, and fear that she
prayed for her life to end. Immediately after the
interview, Jennifer met with the Center's Family
Advocate who provided crisis intervention. As Jennifer
left the Center with her CPS caseworker and a caring
relative, hope had begun to take hold on her young life.
To the surprise of all, Jennifer reached out to the
forensic interviewer who listened to her story and gave
her a bear hug.
