Austin NFL Alumni, KB Home and Lexus of Austin Raise $106K for Center for Child Protection
The NFL Alumni Association Austin Chapter, KB Home and Lexus of Austin helped raise more than $106,000 during the 5th Annual NFL Alumni Golf Classic presented by KB Home June 24 and 25, 2007, to benefit the Center for Child Protection, the first stop for abused and neglected children in Travis County. The proceeds raised represent almost a 30 percent increase from the previous year.
The two-day event began with the Caring for Kids Banquet sponsored by Lexus of Austin at the Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch and Pavilion, which included silent and live auctions and check presentations from KB Home and Lexus of Austin. The Austin Chapter of the NFL Alumni also bestowed their annual “Man of the Year” award on NFL Alumnus and chapter founder Jerry Sisemore, former University of Texas All-American and Philadelphia Eagle offensive lineman, for his outstanding contributions to the community. The big-ticket item of the night was a golf outing to The Lexus Champions for Charity Tournament at Pebble Beach, which fetched $14,000 in the live auction.
The NFL Alumni Golf Classic hosted at the Hills Country Club’s Signature Course gave participants a chance to share a round of golf with ex-NFL players. More than 35 ex- and current NFL players and coaches made it to the event including Don Maynard, Chris Duliban, Mike McCarthy and Dan Neil. Winning the tournament’s grand prize was the Maxwell, Locke & Ritter team consisting of Steve Harvey, Ashlee Martin, Steve Knebel, Dale Cox, and NFL Alumnus, Shawn Slocum, current assistant special teams coach for the Green Bay Packers. Each member of the winning team receives round-trip airfare and accommodations to attend the NFL Alumni’s Super Bowl of Golf in Carlsbad, California. The second place Britgolf team consisted of Phil Rawlins, Andy Capewell, Mike Maroney and Tim Moran and played with NFL Alumnus Bob Yates. The third place Rainmaker Document Technologies team played with NFL Alumnus Dan Neil and consisted Jarrel Maurice, Thomas Rutledge, George Gordon, and Mike Oliver.
