The Kozmetsky Center for Child Protection

Construction in Progress

Construction has begun on the new Kozmetsky Center for Child Protection and due to be complete May 2008. The new Center is being built on 5 acres of land donated by Peter Barlin and Manny Farahani located on Martin Luther King Boulevard, 1.7 miles east of US 183. It is on a bus route and located in an area of town that will provide easy access for our clients and their families.

The new 30,000 square-foot main building will house the Center staff, interview rooms, some agency partners, a medical exam suite, family waiting rooms, and group therapy rooms. Once renovated, the existing adjacent 10,000 square-foot training building will house large meeting rooms, which will enable members from all of the agency partners to gather to examine cases and receive specialized training on child abuse issues. It will also give the community opportunities to learn about how they can help stop child abuse and keep their children safe.

Help Us With Additional Enhancements

We are still accepting contributions to help defray the cost of some important enhancements to the new Kozmetsky Center for Child Protection. The budget for the campaign did not include playground equipment for the children, landscaping or an irrigation system. Please contact us if you would like to help.

If you would like to speak to someone about the campaign, please contact Director of Development Debbie Tate at 512/472-1164 x260 or dtate@centerforchildprotection.org.

History

Since 1992, the Center for Child Protection has been providing investigative and therapeutic services at no cost and without a waiting list to Travis County children ages 12 and younger and to their protective caregivers. Since the Center began serving families, more than 7,500 children have received forensic interview services. Although we have been able to meet the needs of young abused and neglected children, our ability to expand investigative and intervention services to all abused children is currently challenged by the limited capacity of our current facility. The new Kozmetsky Center for Child Protection, currently under construction, will provide better protection and care for all abused and neglected children in our community.

In January of 2005, we launched a $9,100,000 capital campaign for the construction of the Kozmetsky Center for Child Protection. As of April 5, 2007, we have reached the campaign goal! Our deepest gratitude to everyone who pledged to the campaign. They all add up to a safer community for children! You can expect to receive an invitation to the grand opening in early 2008, at which we will celebrate a very successful campaign, and a milestone for the protection of children in the community.

"It is unthinkable that any child should have to endure abuse, but it happens in every part of our community. A child’s loss of protection and the betrayal of their trust must stop.”
