The Center for Child Protection works closely with community agencies, task forces and other nonprofits to protect children in Travis County.

Child Protection Team

The following agencies collaborate with the Center for Child Protection to reduce the trauma for children during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases: Austin Police Department, A.I.S.D. Police Department, Bee Cave Police Department, Cedar Park Police Department, Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, Jonestown Police Department, Lago Vista Police Department, Lakeway Police Department, Leander Police Department, Manor Police Department, Mustang Ridge Police Department, Pflugerville Police Department, Rollingwood Police Department, Sunset Valley Police Department, Texas Department of Family & Protective Services, Travis County District Attorney’s Office, Travis County Sheriff’s Office, and West Lake Hills Police Department.

Child Fatality Review Team

The Travis County Child Fatality Review Team (CFRT) examines the circumstances surrounding child deaths in Travis County at regularly scheduled meetings and provides accurate information on how and why children die through the compilation of an annual report . Read the CFRT annual report.

Austin Police Department's Internet Exploitation Investigations

The Center provides some of the funds to purchase the equipment and training needed by detectives to detect and arrest perpetrators that use the Internet to gain access to children.

Child Assessment Team at Children’s Hospital

Through a collaboration with Dell Children’s Medical Center, this group of nurses, physicians, social workers, Child Protective Services caseworkers, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and Center for Child Protection staff meets weekly to discuss and assess all inpatient cases of child abuse and neglect.

Disproportionality Advisory Committee

The Disproportionality Advisory Committee, a group of community and agency stakeholders, has as its vision to identify and develop ways to address the negative impact of systemic and historic racism in the Child Protective Services system and other youth-serving institutions, to alleviate their continuing effects on families, children and communities.

Drug Endangered Children Committee  

In response to legislation in 2006, the Child Protection Team developed a sub-committee to evaluate the specialized needs of children who are found in homes that contain methamphetamine labs in our community. The needs for decontamination, assessment and intervention are different than the needs of many children that come into the system.

Texas Bar Association Foundation

The Center has received funding since 2005 to develop and offer child abuse and neglect-related trainings for professionals involved in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.
